Muscat, capital of the Sultanate of Oman has a history dating over 900 years. Set between the Hajar Mountains on one side and the sparkling waters of the Gulf on the other, this important port city has a colourful history with past rulers including the Persians and the Portuguese Empire. Your exploration of this city starts with a visit to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, built from 300,000 tonnes of Indian sandstone. Marvel at the features including the enormous hand woven prayer carpet, chandeliers and stained glass windows.

Be welcomed by the owner of the Bait Adam Museum and enjoy traditional Omani coffee with dates, and a tour of his private collection.

Immerse yourself in this beautiful city and its monuments and discover Muscat in-depth by visiting the Opera House and National Museum before driving along the waterfront Corniche, then finish off at the bustling Muttrah Souq. Alternatively, spot wild dolphins along Muscat’s rugged coast on a fun dolphin-watching cruise.

Later, see Muscat’s coast through the eyes of ancient seafarers who plied this route for centuries on a traditional Dhow cruise.

Board your 4WD vehicles for your adventure into the vast mass of undulating dunes of Oman. En route, drive past the fishing village of Quriyat to spot flamingos and stop at the Bimah sinkhole, a spectacular limestone crater filled with shimmering blue green water.
Later, experience the thrills of dune driving and observe the surprisingly wide array of flora and fauna found in the desert sands before visiting a Bedouin home to enjoy a cup of Omani coffee and learn about local life. Arrive at your tented Bedouin camp for the night in time to see the changing colours of the desert during a golden sunset, a photographers’ delight.

Late afternoon, depart on a desert drive across the dunes for sunset drinks.

Escape to cool mountain climes, stopping in Birkat Al Mawz, an uninhibited, abandoned village full of date and banana orchards and old brick houses. Continue on to Jebel Akhdar. Enjoy the stark beauty of the Wahiba Desert from your room, as sunrise over the desert paints the landscape in pastel shades. Enjoy an early breakfast and depart for Nizwa Old Town, a former
capital of Oman. Immerse yourself in the lively souq and explore the well preserved, World Heritage-listed Bahla Fort – the finest of Oman’s castles – which displays beautiful Omani ceiling paintings and beautifully executed woodcarvings.

Discover the 400-year-old village of Al Hamra, one of the best preserved old towns in Oman. Stroll past the honey coloured Yemeni-style old mud-brick houses and the lush, green date plantations. Proceed to Misfat Al Abriyeen, before venturing on a fun-filled and adventurous drive crossing Oman’s quaint villages, patchwork terraces and traditional houses laid out against the rocky slopes. Continue to Muscat and return to your hotel for another Special Stay. This evening. join your Tour Director and fellow travellers for a farewell dinner.
